It’s been close to freezing here Thanksgiving weekend: perfect weather for playing mobile match3 puzzle games on my phone, tucked under blankets.
Resisting Black Friday and holiday weekend gem sales and promos actually wasn’t hard for me. Empire’s & Puzzles threw out a number of sweet free gifts just for logging in worth four or five hero summons, and I have a lot of pulls I’ve saved up on all my fave games that I feel satisfied.
While I’m glad I didn’t feel compelled to spend money this weekend, I’m not exactly proud of how many hours I’ve spent frozen in place but for my swiping fingers and darting zoomed-in eyeballs. Today is a dark/new moon: perfect for resting and being blanketed in darkness. While playing games fits the bill for being low energy, it’s really stimulating and not actually super restful in the way I envision as optimal for restorative recovery. Ideally all screens and bright colorful images would be totally shut down while the moon is dark and I’d just sleep a lot or read dreamy books.
It’s easy to pat myself on the back for not blowing money on games while ignoring the amount of time I waste on them. It’s not really “free” if I’m blowing the most valuable resource we have: TIME.
There is no chance of earning more time down the road. Once you blow it, it is fucking GONE. Just like November’s heroes of the month that I did not pull. I’m saving up for Christmas-y events!
I wonder what December’s hero of the month will be in my favorite games? And how much time I will throw away at the end of the year instead of getting ready for 2025 and wrapping up 2024 in a way I can be proud of? But OMG I’m giddy at the thought of hearing the Christmas event music in E&P again!
